Alternative vacuums: For smaller properties, quick clean up jobs, or for those with difficulty managing larger vacuum cleaners, this range of lightweight vacuums are a handy yet powerful alternative.

FilterStream Company is a leader in bringing innovative cleaning appliances to customers around the world. They are dedicated to making household cleaning faster, easier and cleaner with unique products incorporating the very latest technology.

"The rising rates of allergies and asthma have brought the dust bunnies out from under the bed, so to speak," explains Troy Anderson, co-founder of FilterStream®. "People are increasingly concerned with keeping their homes free from dust, not just for a clean appearance, but also the health benefits."

FilterStream is a division of Headwaters, Inc., an international product development and marketing firm. In Autumn 2000, FilterStream introduced the DirtTamer, the world's most powerful wet/dry cordless hand vac and the first cordless hand vac to incorporate a HEPA filtration system. The DirtTamer® features a patent-pending three-stage filtration system and boasts 70 percent more suction and twice the run time of the leading competitor.

Based on the initial success of FilterStream's DirtTamer® cordless hand vac, Anderson decided to tackle the chore of dusting. "Dusting is really the last frontier of cleaning," says Anderson. "No one has effectively addressed the problem of how to remove dust from your home instead of just moving it around. We saw a need, and have spent the last three years researching and developing a product that truly improves the dusting process." This product is the DustTamer® - a unique new dusting tool that combines the proven dust capturing capabilities of a lambswool duster with a high-powered, portable vacuum chamber that conveniently suctions off accumulated dust on the spot with allergen free HEPA filtration.

Why is dusting so important?

    • Dusting is one of life’s lighter chores and is not time-consuming.
    • Dust is a mixture of potentially allergenic material. May contain fibres from different types of fabrics; feathers/stuffing materials; dander from animals; bacteria; mould and fungus spores (especially in damp areas); food particles; bits of plants and insects; and other allergens unique to an individual home.
    • House dust contains microscopic dust mites, which live in bedding, upholstery and carpet, thrive in summer and die in winter. In a warm, humid house, however, they continue to thrive in the coldest months. The particles seen floating in a shaft of sunlight include dead dust mites and their waste products, which can provoke allergic reactions.
    • About 40 pounds of dust settle in the average home each year.
    • The air in the average home has about twice as much dust as outside, and many particles are so small that they never settle – they just float around constantly.
    • Studies have found that more and more people suffer from allergies.
    • World wide, airborne dust causes the most problems for people with allergies.

How can you control dust? How to dust like a pro...

    • Approx 80% of the dirt in your house enters with people and pets – tracked in. Place doormats outside to stop that dirt in its tracks and clean them regularly.
    • Feel a draft coming through a door or loose window frame? That drtaft may carry in dust or dirt. Fill cracks and holes leading outside with caulking or weather stripping.
    • Make sure your vacuum cleaner isn’t leaking dust.
    • Reduce clutter – recycle. – Dust will settle anywhere!
    • Carpeting collects dust. You might consider polished hardwood floors or area rugs that can be easily washed to make dust control easier.

How to dust like a pro...

    • Dust from top to bottom. The dust won’t fall where you’ve already cleaned.
    • Dust with a smooth wiping motion. If you flick your tool or clot, dust will fall to the floor instead of getting trapped.
    • Dust before you vacuum. A quality vacuum with HEPA filtration will pick up dust that has fallen to your floors and low-lying areas.
    • Don’t use furniture polish every time you dust. The polish will build up into a sticky, streaky coating that attracts dust.
    • As your dusting tool gets loaded up, shake it out or replace it or clean your duster with your DustTamer vacuum chamber.
    • Ventilate. Open windows as wide as you can as often as you can. Ventilation greatly helps reduce the concentration of dust.

How often should you dust?

This depends on your personal preference for cleanliness, how much time you have and whether you have allergies or asthma.
Cleaning experts recommend –

    • Touch ups – if time is tight, only dust the areas you plan to immediate use, such as tables, chairs, and countertops before company arrives.
    • Once a week – furniture and whole house once over lightly.
    • Once a month – doorframes, woodwork, blinds, drapes, valances, light fixtures, lampshades, upholstered furniture and decobweb.
    • Twice a year – rafters, exposed beams, grills and vents, walls and ceilings.

What Can the DustTamer Clean?

The included Lambswool Duster is ideal for cleaning any areas where dust accumulates –

    • Lamps
    • Louvered floors
    • Fine, delicate furniture
    • Collectibles
    • TV/stereo equipment

    • Venetian blinds

    • Automobile dashboards
FILTERSTREAM¨ INTRODUCES WORLD'S FIRST VACUUM POWERED DUSTER

BOSTON, MA, DATE, 2001

In the world of power lunches, power walking and PowerBar® there is now a power dusting appliance that makes housecleaning faster, cleaner and easier.

FilterStream®, creator of the world's most powerful cordless hand vacuum, introduces the DustTamer® - a unique new dusting tool that combines the proven dust capturing capabilities of a lambswool duster with a high-powered, portable vacuum chamber that conveniently suctions off accumulated dust on the spot with allergen free HEPA filtration. This revolutionary cleaning product will hit shelves of Sears stores nationwide this fall, just in time to prep the house for winter and combat the dust kicked up by the first use of the furnace.

The DustTamer® was created to give consumers a dusting tool that would reduce dusting time, improve dust pick-up, and conveniently dispose of dust cleanly, rather than simply pushing dust around or back into the air (as with traditional dusting products). While there have been many variations on the traditional dust cloth and polish technique over the years, the introduction of the DustTamer® adds an entirely new category to the home cleaning aisle a powered dusting appliance.

The many benefits of the DustTamer include:

-Professional quality 100% lambswool duster gathers and holds dust from a variety of surfaces. Dust never touches your hands.

-Lightweight, portable/rechargeable electric vacuum chamber suctions off the dust on the spot.

-Patent-pending dust collection system traps large particles in a reusable stainless steel screen, while 99.97% of smaller microscopic dust particles and allergens (up to .3 microns in size) are filtered out by an included HEPA filter.

-Only dust free HEPA filtered air re-enters the home.

-Translucent dust window allows user to monitor dust accumulation.

-Infrared auto-on switch activates suction automatically.

-One-time investment without costly refills and waste associated with static dust cloths and chemical sprays.
