A natural fabric produced by silk worms, silk is one of the oldest fabrics known to man. As it is a natural fabric, silk works in conjunction with our bodies owing to its many properties and benefits. Here is why silk is the perfect choice for your bedding.
- Silk is naturally hypoallergenic as it contains “Sericin”, an anti-acarid property, which prevents the growth of mites and mould. As a result, silk is inhospitable to dust mites and is therefore the perfect alternative to down.
- Silk is fungi immune, making it resistant to mould; it also does not contain harmful trace chemicals, and is therefore resistant to deterioration.
- Silk is a breathable material due to its porousity and as such is able to help regulate your body temperature; this enables it to evaporate moisture (by wicking away moisture from your body), a very vital feature for people who suffer from night sweats.
- Silk is far stronger than cotton or wool, and is as strong as steel of the same thickness. Silk will stretch to 20% of its length without breaking as it is very elastic, ensuring that silk materials retain their shape and will not wrinkle badly.
- Silk is known to be the most comfortable natural material as it is soft, smooth, and responsive, making it an ideal choice for bedding.
- Although it is a light fibre, silk is well known for its year-round comfort as it provides warmth without bulk.
- Silk consists of the same 18 Amino acids as present in our skin. It is therefore believed that silk is beneficial to the human skin; helping to prevent and aid in the recovery of vascular sclerosis, rheumatism, and arthritis.
